The Hundred 2026 features Eight men’s teams: Birmingham Phoenix, London Spirit, Manchester Super Giants, MI London, Southern Brave, Sunrisers Leeds, Trent Rockets, and Welsh Fire.
Three franchises carry new names after IPL-linked investors bought stakes worth over £975 million collectively. This guide covers every team’s full squad, captain, head coach, home venue, and ownership structure for the sixth season, which runs from July 21 to August 16, 2026.
| 2026 marks the first season under private ownership, with the first-ever player auction replacing the draft system used from 2021 to 2025. |

1. Birmingham Phoenix
Birmingham Phoenix enter The Hundred 2026 with a fresh identity but zero trophies to show from five completed seasons. Their best result remains a runners-up finish in the inaugural 2021 final at Lord’s, where they lost to Southern Brave by 32 runs.

For 2026, Jacob Bethell takes over as captain after Liam Livingstone moved to London Spirit. Former New Zealand fast-bowling coach Shane Bond replaces Dan Vettori as head coach, bringing a pace-focused philosophy to a squad that already boasts Saqib Mahmood and Mustafizur Rahman.

Birmingham Phoenix Players to Watch
Jacob Bethell is one of England’s brightest young talents. At just 21, he has already earned international caps across all three formats. His ability to bat anywhere in the top order and bowl handy left-arm spin makes him a genuine match-winner.
Rehan Ahmed became the youngest England men’s Test wicket-taker in 2022, and his leg-spin combined with useful lower-order runs gives Phoenix a dangerous X-factor. Meanwhile, Mustafizur Rahman’s trademark off-cutters should thrive on English pitches.
2. London Spirit
London Spirit have had a turbulent run in The Hundred so far. The men’s side has never won the title, and they finished bottom of the table in 2024 with just one win from eight matches. However, the arrival of Andy Flower as head coach and the signing of power-hitter Liam Livingstone signal a reset.

The franchise received the highest valuation among all eight teams at £145 million for a 49% stake, purchased by a consortium of Silicon Valley tech entrepreneurs. That financial muscle showed at the auction, where they snapped up James Coles for a record £390,000, the most expensive buy of the event.

London Spirit Players to Watch
Liam Livingstone is the most destructive six-hitter in English cricket right now. His T20I strike rate sits above 150, and the Lord’s boundaries are short enough for him to clear regularly.
Adam Zampa ranks among the world’s top white-ball leg-spinners, with over 100 T20I wickets for Australia. Paired with Mason Crane’s mystery spin, Spirit could have a potent twin-spin attack.
3. Manchester Super Giants
Formerly known as Manchester Originals, this franchise rebranded after the RPSG Group (owners of IPL’s Lucknow Super Giants) acquired a 70% stake for £81 million. Lancashire retains the remaining 30%.

The Manchester Originals reached two consecutive finals in 2022 and 2023, losing both. Under Justin Langer’s coaching and Jos Buttler’s firepower, the Super Giants are among the favourites for 2026. South Africa T20I captain Aiden Markram is set to captain the side.

Manchester Super Giants Players to Watch
Jos Buttler hardly needs an introduction. England’s white-ball captain is one of the cleanest strikers in world cricket, and Old Trafford feels like home for him. His combination with Heinrich Klaasen, South Africa’s most feared T20 batter, could produce the most explosive top order in the tournament.
Gus Atkinson burst onto the international scene with a five-wicket haul on Lord’s Test debut in 2024. His pace and bounce translate well to short-format cricket, and he adds depth to a fast-bowling unit that includes Josh Tongue.
4. MI London
The defending champions enter 2026 under a new name. Previously the Oval Invincibles, this franchise rebranded to MI London after Reliance Industries (Mumbai Indians owners) purchased a 49% stake for £60 million.

The Invincibles won three consecutive titles from 2023 to 2025, making them the most successful team in The Hundred’s short history. With Kieron Pollard replacing Tom Moody as head coach and Sam Curran confirmed as captain, MI London are chasing an unprecedented fourth straight crown.

MI London Players to Watch
Rashid Khan is the greatest T20 spinner on the planet, and that is not up for debate. His economy rate across T20 leagues worldwide hovers around 6.5, and he regularly picks wickets in the middle overs when batters are trying to accelerate.
Trent Boult’s left-arm swing with the new ball is a nightmare for opening batters, especially in English conditions where the ball does plenty. Pair him with Sam Curran, and MI London have a new-ball combination that could rattle any lineup.
5. Southern Brave
Southern Brave won the inaugural edition of The Hundred in 2021, beating Birmingham Phoenix by 32 runs at Lord’s. Since then, they reached the 2024 final but lost to Oval Invincibles.

For 2026, GMR Group (co-owners of IPL’s Delhi Capitals) purchased a 49% stake and also took over Hampshire as the host county. Indian coach Hemang Badani steps in as men’s head coach, with Ian Bell joining as assistant coach.

Southern Brave Players to Watch
Jofra Archer, when fit, is the most electrifying fast bowler in English cricket. His pace regularly touches 150 km/h, and he can bowl devastating yorkers at the death. After injury struggles, a fully fit Archer in 2026 could be the difference-maker for the Brave.
David Miller has built a reputation as one of the most clinical finishers in T20 cricket globally. South Africa’s left-hander has won countless games from seemingly impossible positions, and his experience across IPL, SA20, and international cricket adds serious depth to the Brave’s middle order.
6. Sunrisers Leeds
Another IPL-rebranded franchise, Sunrisers Leeds were previously the Northern Superchargers. The Sun TV Network (Sunrisers Hyderabad owners) bought 100% of the team for £100 million, the only full acquisition in the 2025 sale.

Daniel Vettori coaches the men’s side in 2026, replacing Andrew Flintoff who departed after the ownership transition. Harry Brook earned the most lucrative deal in The Hundred at £465,000, although he confirmed he will not captain the franchise this season.

| Reece Topley | Left-arm Fast | Auction |

Sunrisers Leeds Players to Watch
Harry Brook is England’s white-ball captain and arguably the most complete batter of his generation. His T20I strike rate sits comfortably above 140, and he scored heavily in the IPL 2026 season. At £465,000, he is the highest-paid player in The Hundred’s history.
Abrar Ahmed’s inclusion made headlines. Pakistan’s mystery leg-spinner generates sharp turn and an awkward googly that unsettles even the best batters. His signing came despite reports of a shadow-ban on Pakistani players by Indian-owned franchises, though the ECB and franchises issued a joint statement rejecting such claims.
7. Trent Rockets
Trent Rockets won The Hundred in 2022 under Lewis Gregory’s captaincy, beating Manchester Originals by two wickets in a nail-biting final at Lord’s. They also reached the 2025 final but lost to Oval Invincibles by 26 runs.

Veteran coach Peter Moores continues at the helm, with Adam Voges as assistant and Steven Mullaney joining the coaching staff for 2026. The squad is loaded with international talent, including Tim David, Mitchell Santner, Finn Allen, and Matt Henry.

Trent Rockets Players to Watch
Tim David is the most sought-after T20 finisher in world cricket. The Singapore-born Australian has a T20 career strike rate above 160 and has played for Mumbai Indians, Southern Brave, and Lancashire across franchise leagues.
Matt Henry’s new-ball swing makes him lethal in English conditions. The New Zealand seamer has consistently taken wickets in the powerplay across international cricket, and his accuracy at the death adds further value.
8. Welsh Fire
Welsh Fire are the only team in The Hundred based outside England, playing their home matches at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. They have not won the title yet, but the 2026 squad looks like their strongest ever on paper.

Phil Salt was signed for approximately £450,000, making him the second highest-paid player in the tournament. He also took over as captain after moving from Manchester Super Giants. Australian coach Mike Hussey continues at the helm, with Michael Klinger serving as general manager.

Welsh Fire Players to Watch
Phil Salt is the most dangerous opening batter in T20 cricket right now. His strike rate in T20Is for England is above 170, and he can single-handedly win games inside the powerplay. Salt’s move from Manchester to Cardiff gives Welsh Fire an elite-level match-winner at the top.
Joe Root might seem like an unusual pick for a 100-ball tournament, but his anchor role is invaluable. Root’s ability to rotate strike and play spin with ease allows the power-hitters around him to play freely. At £250,000, he brings Test-match intelligence to a T20-style format.
Marco Jansen adds genuine pace and left-arm angle. The tall South African regularly clocks 145+ km/h and has emerged as one of the best all-format seamers globally. Paired with Lockie Ferguson’s raw pace and Chris Woakes’ swing, Welsh Fire’s pace attack looks formidable.
The Hundred 2026 Ownership: Who Owns What?
The ECB completed the sale of stakes in all eight franchises in late 2025, valuing the league at over £975 million collectively. Over £500 million will be reinvested into English and Welsh cricket, including £50 million for grassroots programs.
Here is a complete breakdown of every ownership deal:
| Team | Investor | Stake | Deal Value | IPL Link |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Birmingham Phoenix | Knighthead Capital | 49% | £40m | None (Birmingham City FC owners) |
| London Spirit | Silicon Valley Consortium | 49% | £145m | None |
| Manchester Super Giants | RPSG Group | 70% | £81m | Lucknow Super Giants |
| MI London | Reliance Industries | 49% | £60m | Mumbai Indians |
| Southern Brave | GMR Group | 49% | Undisclosed | Delhi Capitals (co-owners) |
| Sunrisers Leeds | Sun TV Network | 100% | £100m | Sunrisers Hyderabad |
| Trent Rockets | Cain & Ares Management | 49% | ~£40m | None |
| Welsh Fire | Sanjay Govil | 50% | £40m | None (Washington Freedom MLC) |
Five of the eight franchises now have direct or indirect connections to IPL ownership groups. This cross-pollination of cricket investment is a trend that extends beyond The Hundred, with similar patterns visible in SA20, MLC, and the ILT20.
The Hundred Men’s Past Winners (2021 to 2025)
The Hundred has crowned four different finalists across five seasons, though the Oval Invincibles (now MI London) dominated the most recent three-year stretch.
| Season | Winner | Runner-up | Final Venue | Result |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2021 | Southern Brave | Birmingham Phoenix | Lord’s | Won by 32 runs |
| 2022 | Trent Rockets | Manchester Originals | Lord’s | Won by 2 wickets |
| 2023 | Oval Invincibles | Manchester Originals | Lord’s | Won by 5 wickets |
| 2024 | Oval Invincibles | Southern Brave | Lord’s | Won by 17 runs |
| 2025 | Oval Invincibles | Trent Rockets | Lord’s | Won by 26 runs |
Every final has been played at Lord’s, which will continue to host the 2026 final on August 16. The Eliminator (semi-final between 2nd and 3rd placed teams) will be held at The Oval on August 14.
The Hundred 2026 Auction: Key Numbers
The first-ever Hundred player auction was held on March 11-12, 2026, in London. It replaced the draft system that had been used since the competition’s inception. Here are the headline figures from the auction:
| Stat | Detail |
|---|---|
| Most Expensive Player (Auction) | James Coles – £390,000 (London Spirit) |
| Second Most Expensive | Jordan Cox – £300,000 (Welsh Fire) |
| Highest-Paid Player (Overall) | Harry Brook – £465,000 (Sunrisers Leeds, pre-auction) |
| Men’s Team Salary Cap | £2.05 million |
| Max Overseas Players per Squad | 4 (increased from 3) |
| Squad Size | 14-16 players |
What Changed in The Hundred for 2026?
The 2026 season introduces several structural changes that set it apart from previous editions:
- Private Ownership: For the first time, external investors run the franchises instead of the ECB. This includes IPL franchise groups, American private equity firms, and tech entrepreneurs.
- Auction System: The traditional player draft has been scrapped. Teams now bid for players in an IPL-style auction, adding a new layer of strategy.
- Four Overseas Players: Squads can now include up to four overseas players, increased from three. This means more international star power on the pitch.
- Team Rebranding: Three teams carry new names: Oval Invincibles became MI London, Northern Superchargers became Sunrisers Leeds, and Manchester Originals became Manchester Super Giants.
- Increased Salary Cap: The men’s salary pot is set at £2.05 million per team, reflecting increased investment in player payments.
- Wildcard Picks: After the auction, teams can add two more players through Vitality Wildcard selections based on T20 Blast performances.
Wrapping Up
The Hundred 2026 arrives with bigger budgets, global ownership, and squads stacked with international superstars. MI London chase a record fourth straight title, while Welsh Fire and Manchester Super Giants look like the strongest challengers on paper.
With the auction system, increased overseas slots, and private investment now in play, the sixth season promises to be the most competitive edition yet. The action kicks off on July 21 at The Oval, and every team has a genuine reason to believe this could be their year.
